Every so often the donut craving hits, and when it hits, it hits hard. Here’s a way to save a few bucks and a trip to the donut shop. You can make delicious bite-sized sweets at home, and it’s much easier than you might think, plus they’re baked, so it may even be a little healthier than getting them at the shop.

This recipe calls for a wonderfully tart lemon icing that counteracts the sweetness of the cakey donut. Make a batch of bite-sized sweets at the start of the week for pre-portioned desserts that are sure to please the whole family.


– 1 Cup of self raising flour
– 1/2 Cup of sugar
– 1 Egg
– 1/2 Cup of milk
– 1/4 Cup of oil
– 2 Teaspoons of vanilla extract
– 1/2 Teaspoon of lemon extract
– Food gel/food coloring


– 3/4 Cup Icing sugar/powdered sugar
– 1 Tablespoon of milk
– 1/4 Teaspoon of lemon extract
– Food gel/food coloring


1. Get a mixing bowl and put in the self raising flour, sugar, egg, milk, oil, vanilla extract, lemon extract, and food gel or food coloring. Give it a good mix.
2. Get a donut maker, grease it, and pour in the mixture. Once done, set it aside.

3. Get a bowl and put in the sugar, milk, lemon extract, and food gel/food coloring. Mix it together.
4. Dip one side of the donuts in and serve.
