Dreamy dates are cooked to perfection and provide the tender texture for this moist and sticky Date Pudding with Caramel Sauce. The indulgent dessert gets its rich flavor from fresh butter and luscious brown sugar. Finished with a warm and creamy caramel sauce which soaks down into the cake, it’s richness at its best and a pleasure to eat.

The decadent dessert is a warm and comfortable treat on chilly, winter days, but it’s delicious any time of the year. It’s a great finish to a roasted chicken dinner or a meal of grilled pork chops and cheesy scalloped potatoes.

 

Ingredients:

Cake/Pudding

300ml of water
250 Grams of dates (cut up)
1 Teaspoon of baking soda
75 Grams of butter
2 Eggs lightly beaten
1 Cup of self raising flour
1 Cup of brown sugar

Sauce

60 Grams of butter
1/2 Cup of brown sugar
200ml of thickened or whipping cream

Directions:

Cake/Pudding

1. Get a medium-large sized saucepan and put in the water and dates. Turn your heat on to medium-high and bring it to a boil.
2. Once it boils, turn the heat off and put in the baking soda then stir it well.
3. Then add the butter and stir it until it’s melted.
4. Add the lightly beaten eggs and quickly mix it through.
5. Add the self raising flour and brown sugar. Mix it through until it’s well combined.
6. Get a baking tray/baking tin (anywhere from 6-9 inches), grease it, and pour in the mixture.
7. Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for about 25-30 minutes. Once done, leave it to cool for about 10 minutes or so before you take it out.

Sauce

8. Get a small sauce pan and put in the butter, brown sugar, and thickened or whipping cream.
9. Turn the heat on to medium and melt it all together.
10. Get your cake and pour the sauce over the top and serve.
